In addition to our great newly designed tshirts, windbreakers, and polo’s, we have some exciting products for you that were made in Haiti! One of our most requested items by our team members is Haitian Coffee. Haiti was once known for its coffee and with many people traveling there again it is in high demand! Restore Haiti has worked with an organization who has fairly sourced these Haitian coffee beans from local farmers and then brought them here to the U.S. to freshly roast them just in time for the Holidays!
Restore Haiti has also partnered with “Haiti Made”, an organization that seeks tobuild a ‘Circle of Trade’ united around quality products, economic sustainability, & dignified jobs to fight against Haiti’s orphan and child slavery crisis. These high quality leather passport covers and hot beverage sleeves (with stainless steel cup) were made in Haiti just last month by a group of women who are passionate about the opportunity to support themselves and their children by creating these products, customized with our Restore Haiti logo.
As you consider your shopping list this holiday season, purchasing through Restore Haiti makes your Christmas dollars stretch further by helping support not only our organization but also the local Haitian economy and its farmers, entrepreneurs, and families by giving them an opportunity to provide you with the high quality and meaningful Christmas gifts you want to give and people want to receive! Visit our store by clicking hereor go to www.restorehaiti.com and click “Store”.
If using the U.S. Postal Service, packages can be mailed to our normal PO Box address (listed below). If you are using FedEx or UPS, and they require you to mail the package to a physical address, please send to 144 Ridgemont Place, Franklin TN 37064.
Next summer we are going to offer a different type of trip. We will leave on Thursday, June 12 and return the following Tuesday. You will experience a lot of Haiti, and by bringing many people we will help boost the local economy by staying in hotels, buying products, and eating at local restaurants. There will be a few work projects for us to participate in and also we will visit people bringing care packages to deliver.
Would you think about joining us? Bring family members and even a few new relationships to the project. Restore Haiti has a few projects that we would love to introduce you to: Rebuild Haiti, where we find people in need, fundraise and build them a new home. A sponsorship program where 600 students are fed 5 times a week, go to school and have access to our medical clinic. You will experience the community life and have a few surprises!
Please think about going on this trip and prepare now. IF you don’t have a passport, apply for one. Sign ups will start September 3rd, with a $150 deposit to Restore Haiti. You will book your own flight using the parameters we give you, and leave the rest to Restore Haiti! There are a few add on options you can choose, so your trip should cost between $900-$1100 plus airfare.
Thank you again for your interest in going!
President, Restore Haiti
It is that time of year again, time to give our sponsors and friends of Restore Haiti the opportunity to help with school supplies for the children in Haiti. This year, we are going to be doing it a little differently. We want to make sure each school supply package that our students receive is consistent and contains what is needed for their age and grade. So this year Restore Haiti will be assembling packages of supplies for the children. The Restore Haiti supply packs will be filled with pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, crayons or colored pencils as well as calculators and protractor/compass for the older students.
Since the sponsorship program began in 2007 and we have had a steady rate of $30 per elementary age student. As the students have grown, we have added secondary and scholarship students at $40 each so that they could continue on to the upper grade levels where the tuition and testing fees are higher. As we turn the corner of completing our 6th year of sponsorship, it is no secret that the changing economy and rising food costs have affected everyone, both here in the US and overseas. With the growing number of children relying on our services of providing food and education over the years, we have seen the need to increase staff, replace supplies more frequently, and food costs rising. In order to continue to serve our students and their families well, keep the program running, and increase our interaction with our dedicated sponsors and donors, we have made the decision to increase our sponsorship rates by $3.00/month for everyone in the program. Although its a small amount for each sponsor, with all of us working together, this increase of funds will allow Restore Haiti to continue to do the important work we do to allow the program in Haiti to carry on, grow, and provide food, education, and medical care to those in such a great need, as well as look for ways to give more visibility and connection points to our sponsors in the future.
If you pay by check, you can simply increase the amount you send by $3 per student per month. If you are currently on our automatic monthly donation plan through paypal, a member of our team will be in touch with you to help make that transition. Our goal is to have this completed by March.
Thank you for your continued support! Restore Haiti remains dedicated to making the most out of every dollar given to us by our donors, and to continuing to be a bridge for you to impact the life of a child in Haiti.]]>
Let me explain what I mean by ‘Go Deeper’. Because of the growth we have experienced with Restore Haiti, we have learned we need to take some additional steps to continue to move forward and grow as a healthy organization. Our project in Haiti is strong- the projects we set out to start and support at the very beginning are being funded and moving forward as planned, and now we need to establish strong roots so that we can continue to grow and make an even deeper impact in Morne Oge. There are a few areas where we are going deeper but in order to do that we need financial assistance. The Restore House has 8 teen girls who are in need of more assistance, Jackson who lives at the Restore House needs additional care. There are children, who are sponsored, but need additional help above and beyond basic care, such as medicines or clothing. When the Tap tap needs repaired or the generator breaks this creates a financial gap. The list of ‘unexpected’ needs can go on and on as you know. We are looking for those who will help us build an account to pay for these types of expenses, and we are looking to be able to dedicate more time and energy in to going deeper in to the lives of those we serve.
To that end, we are excited to announce that we are going to be hiring our first stateside full time employee. Many of you may not be aware that, to date, Restore Haiti has worked as an all-volunteer staff. Every member of our Haiti team has a full time job, and spends hours in the evening and on weekends working on tasks to keep Restore Haiti up and running. We feel that by hiring a staff member, it will allow Restore Haiti to grow to make an even greater impact, have a more effective sponsorship program, and better prepare teams for their upcoming trips. We see this as an essential step to seeing the project in Haiti become even greater than it ever has been! Additionally, we want to continue to grow our staff of Haitian team members who run the day-to-day operations in Morne-Oge, ensuring our long-term sustainability and overall effectiveness in the community where we are planted. Pastor Lafleur is another person who has never received personal finances for his work, we feel that this needs to change as well in 2013 and are looking to compensate him in a small way for the service he has provided. I think you all agree this is something that should be done.
What am I asking of you? To join the “Restore Haiti Community”. We are looking for those who will commit to a year of monthly donations to help the community grow on an ongoing, consistent basis. These funds will be used to help Restore Haiti “Go Deeper” in 2013 and beyond. By joining this Restore Haiti Community of supporters, we will be able to meet the needs that arise day to day in Haiti and those that arise out of being a 501c3 in good standing here in the United States. This special fund will ensure we have the ability to continue to transform Morne Oge by providing food, nutrition, medical care, homes, and jobs to the people in that community.
Please click on the link below to sign up to join the community of supporters. We have a large goal and are looking for those who can pledge to give $10, $25, $100 a month, or whatever you choose, to help us Go Deeper in 2013. After signing up, one of our Restore Haiti team members will follow up with you in the next few weeks to help you get started. Any amount, large or small, will help as we all work together to transform lives in Haiti.
