So I have been here from Tuesday- Friday so far and I have learned a lot. It has been great for me as for the 5 years here I have never just gone. So I was able to spend a few days in Haiti alone just learning about the land, the culture and so much more. The trip has been amazing so far and I continue to ask for your support and want you to know that if you are interest in going just a little thought of going, lets talk because you will love it and it’s not as bad as you think.
I have spent time meeting different people in the area, working on the earthquake area and just building relationships. Seeing the hospital and how life is here was hard enough then hearing how bad it is after the earthquake has been hard. In interviewing many of the people here on where they were, did they lose people it really tears at the heart. I do feel thought that they find some sort of healing at sharing the story of that terrible day in January. I have an interview with a friend who tells me after the earthquake, it started to rain, it was cold and dark-so many wondered was this their last day on earth. Imagine that! I ask you just take the time and talk with someone around you get to know them and let them tell their thoughts, maybe you won’t have the answer but I know if you just listen it will be a blessing to them.
On Friday we went to a hospital. I was told this hospital was very packed during the Earthquake, one of the doctors now just tells me that it is just the normal Haitian medical needs. It is ran by a missionary that has this hospital, we went up to the church it, followed by a flight of stairs to a school then another flight of stairs to a living quarter. We opened the door and on the other side of the room in a recliner sat a 65 year old white man reading a large print bible. He and his wife have spent 28 years in Haiti. For the next 90 minutes sat in his room listening to his story. Well, it started with his story and went on to just ministry.
Things like: Keep focused. Delight yourself in God and his word. Psalm 1, if we delight in other things to make us happy then we are not fully delighting in God. Spending time just like Christmas morning how you can’t wait to get up and see what is in store, just the same with God just anticipate what he is going to delight with you next. Know as well that God is going to do miracles and maybe you are the only one that will know its a miracle but it is one. It is very much for us to take on the world, but just know your place and if you are called to do 1 thing- go after that and do it!
Finally, in my morning devotionals I read Hebrews and I noticed this missionary was reading it as well. Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. That is one of those scriptures that I never fully understood, after yesterday I do know more.
